Mexican Inquisition

The theme inquisition and in particular the institution, name as it was known in Spain and its colonies, it is present in the Mexican collective mentality in the context of “Freedom, Oppression, Censorship, Justice And Intolerance” concepts and realities that centuries after the boom of the activities of the Holy Office still they are stirred as part of our society.

The Holy Court of Inquisition was the institution that regulated and monitored religious, moral and political behavior in New Spain. He exercised control over minds and bodies of Spaniards, Nahuas, Jewish, Muslims, Blacks, Mestizos And Mulatto for two hundred and fifty years. The Church and the State considered it necessary as part of Social Education, supporting, through penalties and public punishment, based on the social partnership of men and women, inquisitors made it respect the established rules. The documents that keeps the Inquisition Archive allow an approach not only to the transcendence of the institution in the colonial structure, but also to social relations and daily life, to the passions that triggered human lilies, permeated by unequal exercise the power.

The institution of the Inquisition as an instrument of control of society is a living issue, because although it seems distant to our realities of millennium, censorship, repression and intolerance, still throb.

Studying the Court of the Holy Office of the Inquisition, extinct in 1821, remains a topical issue. The material that enclose your files is far from being exhausted. It is an institution that can be focused from multiple points of view: ecclesiastical, human rights, of freedom, as an institution of control and power, of the history of sexuality and the history of mentalities, among others.

Palace of the Inquisition

The Palace of the Inquisition stands on the corner of República de Brasil and República de Venezuela streets in Mexico City, Mexico. As neither side of the building faces Santo Domingo Plaza, the entrance is placed at a canted corner to face the plaza. Its long association with the Inquisition made it difficult to convert to other purposes.

From nearly the beginning of the colonial period until the Mexican War of Independence, this spot has been the headquarters of the Inquisition in the colony of New Spain. While the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition was not fully established here until 1571, the first cleric with inquisitorial duties was Martin de Valencia, who came to the colony in 1524. The Dominicans, in whom the papacy had invested Inquisition duties, arrived in 1526 and proceeded to build a monastery in the area occupied by both the current palace and the Church of Santo Domingo. The first official Inquisitor for the colony, Pedro Moya de Contreras, worked in the section of the monastery, where the palace would be built in the 18th century.

The Inquisition was officially established here due to a 1566 conspiracy led by Martín Cortés, son of Hernán Cortés, threatened to make the new colony independent of Spain. The plot was denounced by Baltazar de Aguilar Cervantes and Inquisition trials of various Creoles began. The accused were subject to torture and harsh sentences, especially when before a magistrate by the name of Muñoz. The first victims of this series of trials were the brothers Alonso and Gil Gonzalez de Alvila Alvarado. Despite having the sympathy of the local citizens and of the chroniclers, both brothers were convicted. Their punishment was to be decapitated, and their house, located on part of the site of the Templo Mayor, was razed to the ground, and the site sown with salt.

Convent of San Diego

In front of the Convent of San Diego, Mexico City, the bonfire was located in which the Inquisition condemned, renegades, witches and detrians. The paradoxes of the destination wanted one of his main monks, Fray Vicente de San José, was burned alive in Nagasaki (1622), after pretending to catechize in Japan. From the Franciscan monastery currently there are only the temple and part of the cloister.

Magic Circle

——

Grounding

This is very simple. I do it by a visualization of my feet as roots that push deep into the ground. Through these roots feel the energy of the earth and its strength, how it supports you and makes you strong. Your roots should go really go deep. After a while you can do this by just directing your thoughts and energy down into the earth but the visualization helps to get started. You can do this exercise any where whether you are in contact with the earth or not.

Centering

Find a place in your navel where you feel like it is your center of being. Practise centering into different places in the trunk of your body. First imagine that you have a field of energy around you. Another thing about practice, when I say that I am a Wizard or Witch I say that I am a practicing. This means that I am always learning and teaching my self. Being is a constant practice we are always looking for ways to bring peace and love into the enviroment. Our space is our sacred job given by the goddess do what you can to clean it up and make it better. If every person did this the world would be not only better but less hectic. I like the thought that cleaning is a ritual.

Magic Circle

First, ground and center. Mentaly ask the cleaning goddess to help you clean your space. Feel the energy around you, just be aware of how cluttered and messy your space is. Ground and center. What is Magic Circle? Why do we create it? How do we create it? What is it used for? Is it needed?

Magic Circle is simply an area that has been cleansed and blessed by you in the name of a deity. Magic Circle but as Wizard or Witch we do not worship in these areas and therefore must create our own. Magic Circle of space marked out by Wizard or Witch of some branches of ritual magic, which they generally believe will contain energy and form a sacred space, or will provide them a form of magical protection, or both.

To create sacred space you can be as simple or as formal as you wish. By simply saying, “By the powers of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit I consecrate this space in the name of the God and the Goddess.” If you prefer something more formal walk around the area once for each individual element and a representation of it.

“By the power of earth I consecrate this space in the name of the God and the Goddess. (Drop salt as you go around and say the words)” Continue with each of the elements using a representation of each; Athame for Earth, water for Water, incense for Air, your candle for Fire.

The common technique for raising energy within the circle is by means of a cone of power. The circle is usually closed by the practitioner after they have finished by drawing in the energy with the Athame the circle including their hand. This is called closing the circle, releasing the circle. The term “opening” is often used, representing the idea the circle has been expanded and dissipated rather than closed in on itself.

It is within this area that you will draw your circle and perform your rituals. The area you choose to work in may be as small or as large as you wish. You may also want to take into consideration whether or not you will be working with others. You may also not want your space to be permanent. You may want to put it away between rituals; such as in my case. Unfortunately, the room is very small, as is the case with most, so my alter must also be the kitchen counter, dinning room table, and desk (Altar Cloth if the real one is covered). I use a trunk and when not in use my Magic Tools are stored within it.

High Priest

——

Message from the High Priest

I am The Lost Bearded White Brother and was born a long time ago in a cold faraway land. Though I was born in a Catholic family and was baptized such, at home we never really had a spiritual life. I even had an uncle who was a Catholic priest who passed away when I was still a child, and the only thing I really remember from him was his love of the good things in life like good wine and good food. It must have impressed me a lot, because that too has been a lifelong quest, but I digress…

I started reading early, even before starting school. A few years later I was reading at least 6 books a week, and since that tender age I have been a voracious reader. Since I was very young I have always been interested in all things occult. The lack of any spiritual life at home, and my parent’s lack of response to my many questions launched me into a lifelong quest to learn about the mysteries of life. My mother had some interests in the subject and I borrowed some of her numerous books on the subject, as I inherited my thirst for reading from her, and I started to search all of the resources that were available to me at the time. I read about the various organized religions, and became disenchanted with all of them. More and more I became interested in the core philosophies of most religions and how they can be applied to the way we act and live, and to magic that can be used to better mankind.

Though I still consider myself a Catholic by indoctrination, for year I have been practicing my own form of religion or better worded, my own beliefs based on all of those philosophies and religions I studied and on magic. It involves at its core a great respect for others and for nature, and the prime goal to live my life to its fullest and to better myself and mankind daily.

Another interest passed on to my by my mother was that of archeology. She always says that if she could redo her life, she would study this subject. When I was growing up there was a lot of interest in mysticism and in the ancient civilizations, especially the ones from Latin America. I remember reading about the great archeological sites of those faraway warm climes, and dreaming about visiting there a day. As I always say “If there is a wish, there is a way”; I ended up moving to Mexico over 25 years ago after meeting a wonderful Mexican woman and marrying her. I always believed in the duality of the universe, for every Ying there is a Yang, for every Man there is a Woman, and for every cold place there is a warm one.

I brought to this warm country my kind of magic that is rooted in the cold climes of Northern Europe, and have been avidly studying the local brand of magic that has its roots in indigenous spiritualism, in Spanish magic, and various other imported influences, especially the heavy one of the Catholic Church. I have taken from all of those influences the aspects that work with my beliefs and have been using this potent blend of magic to better myself and those next to me. I have also read a lot of indigenous legends pervasive in all of the old southern civilizations about the long lost learned foreigner that will return in times of turmoil to bring spiritual help to the lands of the south.

These current times are nothing but tumultuous and I assume the mantle of High Priest to those who wish to follow me. I only promote goodness and harmony, and thus will only offer help to those seeking such. I plan to offer my magical powers to help those in need. To those who wish to do harm to others, to force others to do things against their will, or to gain things that are not theirs to get, please look somewhere else because I will never do that kind of work.

To those in search of some spiritual direction, if you would please have a look at what my beliefs are. It is not a religion, and I do not want to organize it as such, as with every organized religion comes dogma, and with dogma comes prejudice, and with prejudice comes lack of respect, and so on… Those basic principles are my beliefs, and if all passing through here can live a little more along those lines daily, the world would become a much better place to live in. I hope from the deepest part of my soul that such changes will happen and that the world will be better for it, even if only more one person follow parts of those simple beliefs.

Malleus Maleficarum

Malleus Maleficarum

The Malleus went through 28 editions between 1486 and 1600 and was accepted by Roman Catholics and Protestants alike as an authoritative source of information concerning Satanism and as a guide to Christian defense. Malleus Maleficarum, detailed legal and theological document regarded as the standard handbook on witchcraft, including its detection and its extirpation, until well into the 18th century. Its appearance did much to spur on and sustain some two centuries of witch-hunting hysteria in Europe. The Malleus was the work is a Dominicans Friar Heinrich “Henricus Institoris” Kraemer, professor of theology at the University of Salzburg, Austria, and Inquisitor in the Tirol region of Austria. In 1484 Pope Innocent VIII issued the bull Summis Desiderantes, in which he deplored the spread of witchcraft in Germany and authorized Kraemer to extirpate it.

The Malleus elevates sorcery to the criminal status of heresy and recommends that secular courts prosecute it as such. The Malleus suggests torture to effectively obtain confessions and the death penalty as the only certain remedy against the evils of witchcraft. At the time of its publication, heretics were frequently punished to be burned alive at the stake and the Malleus encouraged the same treatment of witches. The book had a strong influence on culture for several centuries.

However, the Malleus was still written to be a thorough guide for investigating and persecuting witches. By the early 1480s the frequency of European witch trials had increased substantially. Over time, heretical elements had merged with folklore elements such as the wild ride, so differentiating witchcraft cases with prominent heresy from others was not possible. At least, not without a guide, which the Malleus would provide. Accusations present in the Malleus such as witches being held culpable for diabolism, weather magic and infanticide were rising in the decades before the 1480s. The Malleus provided a definitive treatise encompassing these concerns.

Possessions by the Devil are considered real even in present times by some Christians and it is an element of doctrine that demons may be cast out by appropriate sacramental exorcisms. In the Malleus, exorcism is, for example, one of the five ways to overcome the attacks of Incubi or Succubus. Prayer and transubstantiation are excluded from the category of magical rites, as they emanate from God. It gave full papal approval for the Inquisition to prosecute what was deemed to be witchcraft in general and also gave individual authorizations to Dominican Friar Henricus Institoris specifically.

Catholic and Protestant demonologies were similar in their basic beliefs about witches and most writers agreed on the severity of the crime of witchcraft. It was accepted by both Catholic and Protestant legislatures and witch-hunting was undeniably sponsored by both Protestant and Catholic governments. Witches became heretics to Christianity and witchcraft became the greatest of crimes and sins. Within continental and Roman Law witchcraft was the crimen exceptum, a crime so foul that all normal legal procedures were superseded.

Torture and Confessions

The Malleus recommended not only torture but also deception in order to obtain confessions, and when the implements of torture have been prepared, the judge, both in person and through other good men zealous in the faith, tries to persuade the prisoner to confess the truth freely; but, if he will not confess, he bid attendants make the prisoner fast to the strappado or some other implement of torture. The attendants obey forthwith, yet with feigned agitation. Then, at the prayer of some of those present, the prisoner is loosed again and is taken aside and once more persuaded to confess, being led to believe that he will in that case not be put to death.

Elaborated Concept Of Witchcraft

  • A pact entered into with the Devil, and concomitant apostasy from Christianity.
  • Sexual relations with the Devil.
  • Aerial flight for the purpose of attending.
  • An assembly presided over by Satan himself, at which initiates entered into the pact, and incest and promiscuous sex were engaged in by the attendees.
  • The practice of maleficent magic.
  • The slaughter of babies.

Shamans, Animal, Plants, and the Spirit World

Shamans, Animal, Plants, and the Spirit World

——

Shamans, Animal, Plants, and the Spirit World

A shaman is a religious or mystical expert who, in traditional tribal peoples societies, functions as a healer, prophet and custodian of cultural tradition. Throughout human history and perhaps even before Homo Sapiens evolved, there has been an innate desire to experience a direct connection with god or gods, ancestors, and other inhabitants of the spirit world. When examining some of the most ancient cultures across Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas and up through time to the preindustrial age we observe many clans, sects, and tribes partaking of psychoactive and other plants for spiritual and/or medicinal uses. The uses and curative effect of these plants were strongly interconnected with ritual. For many tribal cultures, the plants in and of themselves were sacred. Supernatural powers resided in their tissues as a divine gift to humans on earth. Despite the fact they are almost always considered healers, this is not the complete extent of their duties and abilities and detaches them from their role as a mediator between normal humans and the world of spirits, animals, plants, and souls for the traditional tribal peoples.

Soul Dualism

Soul dualism is a range of beliefs that a person has two or more kinds of souls. In many cases, one of the souls is associated with body functions and the other one can leave the body wandering soul. Sometimes the plethora of soul types can be even more complex. Sometimes, a shaman’s wandering soul may be held to be able to undertake a spirit journey.

The wandering soul is said to leave the body and journey to the spirit world during trance-like states, sleep, delirium, death, and insanity. The duality is also seen in the healing traditions of shamans, where illnesses are regarded as a wandering soul and thus to heal the sick, one must return the wandering soul, which may have been stolen by an evil spirit or got lost in the spirit world, into the body. If the wandering soul can not be returned, the afflicted person dies or goes permanently insane.

Role of the Shaman

Shamans are the most notable of the multiple religious figures present in traditional Tribal religion. They function as healers, prophets, diviners and custodians of religious mythology. They are also often the coordinators of religious and cultural ceremonies. There are many variations of shaman throughout the world, but several common beliefs are shared by all forms of shaman.

  • Spirits exist and they play important roles both in individual lives and in human society.
  • The shaman can communicate with the spirit world.
  • Spirits can be benevolent or malevolent.
  • The shaman can treat sickness caused by malevolent spirits.
  • The shaman can employ trances inducing techniques to incite visionary ecstasy and go on vision quests.
  • The shaman’s spirit can leave the body to enter the supernatural world to search for answers.
  • The shaman evokes animal images as spirit guides, omens, and message-bearers.
  • The shaman can perform other varied forms of divination, scry, throw bones or runes, and sometimes foretell of future events.

Soul And Spirit Concepts

  • Soul
  • Healing
  • Scarcity Of Hunted Game
  • Infertility of women
  • Spirits

Spirits are invisible entities that only shamans can see. They are seen as persons that can assume a human or animal body. Some animals in their physical forms are also seen as spirits such as the case of the eagle, snake, jaguar, and rat. Beliefs related to spirits can explain many different phenomena. The importance of storytelling, or acting as a singer, can be understood better if the whole belief system is examined. A person who can memorize long texts or songs, and play an instrument, may be regarded as the beneficiary of contact with the spirits.

Shamans were associated with powers generally thought to be beneficial to the community, but were believed in some cases to use their powers for sorcery. Shaman-prophets and diviners were concerned with predicting the outcome of the hunt, relocating lost objects, and determining the root causes of communal discontent and ill will. Shamans in these societies were custodians of the sacred medicine bundles containing objects and materials endowed with great mystery and power. Shamans were often consulted at any time of sickness or communal misfortune. Natural causes were recognized for many diseases, especially physically curable ones; others were commonly believed to be the result of intrusion into the body of objects placed there by sorcerers. The shaman-healer’s treatment of such diseases was dictated by his guardian spirit, but usually consisted of the shaman ritually sucking the disease agent out of the body, brushing it off with a bird’s wing or drawing it out with dramatic gestures. Illness could also result from wandering soul. The shaman-healer’s action was then directed to recovering the patient’s spirit, either the soul or guardian spirit power. and reintroducing it to the body.

Banning Shamanistic Rituals

Many shaman-led healing ceremonies are still performed, including smudging, sharing circles and healing circles. Most modern shamans see themselves as facilitators for healing rather than healers themselves. Shamans offer healing techniques for those suffering from emotional, mental and physical pain. Often, such techniques include connecting with spirit guides, negative energy extraction, holistic remedies, engaging with nature and spiritual cleanses. Similar to their ancestors, modern shamans also perform rites of passage ceremonies, including births, marriages and deaths.

Priest-Shaman Pedro Ruiz Calderón

——

Priest-Shaman Pedro Ruiz Calderón

——

Priest-Shaman Pedro Ruiz Calderón

On January 30, 1540, in Mexico City, at a time when Spain was carving out an empire in the New World, an epic trial got under way.

Ruiz Calderón was a Catholic Priest that was said to be as powerful as the ancient Mexican priests. That he possessed the magical power of a Shaman who came from lessons acquired in Europe. According to legends, he had the gift of ubiquity and could teleport from Spain to Mexico and vice versa. Likewise, he had the ability to become invisible, he had a supreme ability to seduce women and do with them what they desire the lowest instincts of him. He expelled demons and could find hidden treasures. According to many, he dominated black magic and was endowed with a spiritual force much above the Evangelizer companions of him.

The Ruiz Calderón Process

The case of Pedro Ruiz Calderón was denounced before the Holy Office of the Holy Inquisition by the secretary of him, a Miguel López de Legazpi. The Fray Juan de Zumárraga was the one who took the reins of the matter. Zumárraga, a very hated subject among Mexicans thanks to his series of barbaries against the indigenous people and by the idiot burning of very important Aztec books, was a Franciscan Fraile who, at Sacor, was the First Bishop of Mexico.

During the process, initiated in 1540, they left new and supposed prodigies made by the Priest-Shaman Ruiz, as stored in the minutes that are kept in the general archive of the nation. In the trial, Ruiz said he visited hell with several companions all of whom never returned, except for him. He lowered three thousand leagues and Satan himself gave him books, one of which was autographed by the Head of Satan; He taught him a cryptic language that only he could decipher, in addition to teaching him varied secrets of black magic and alchemy. No book, nor the volume signed by the devil was found after the confiscation of the goods of him. What if found was a manual to perform exorcisms, a guide to discover wonderful treasures and volume of natural magic and Cabalistics of Sobriquet Magnus, written by Albertus Magnus.

Some “Evidence”, as presented by Gil González de Benavides, supported the “Veracity” of the alleged magical faculties just for witnessing Ruiz’s skills to find treasures. For this activity, he used to charge good sums of money from people who hired him.

Sentence

Given the severity of the case, it was thought that Zumárraga would punish him severely, since magic, especially black, was very repudiated by the Catholics of the time. However, Franciscan was very benevolent, almost scratching in doubt, with Ruiz Calderón who was simply exiled to Spain with the prohibition of celebrating Catholic trades for two years.

The Doubts

If Ruiz really was as powerful as he harangue, why did not he become invisible during the trial to escape? Or why did he not teleport to Spain? He did not know what was going to be the sentence of him, but it was legitimate to think that they were going to torture him and kill for walking talking about friendships with the devil.

What actually happens is that Ruiz did the same as many charlatans and today’s sect leaders, such as Reverend Cash Luna, to take money and earthly privileges. In the actors of the trial he was seated that Ruiz charged for each of the services provided.

The case of Ruiz Calderón can be archived as one of so many charlatans and fraudulent from different eras and places. Not only one, not even Ruiz, could show the powers he assured possessing.

The funny thing is to know why Zumárraga was so benevolent with Ruiz. It is likely that the Shaman would like to blackmail him with talking about the innumerable indigenous lovers and slaves that the Franciscan Friar returned Bishop had at the mercy of him. Perhaps they reached a mutual agreement, although this is nothing more than speculation.

Philosophy and Elitism

Philosophy and Elitism

Philosophy and Elitism

While the concept of populism has been one of the most used and most contested social science concepts in recent years, the concept of elitism still is strangely underspecified. Yet even in the debate centering solely on populism, the idea that there is a significant other, a counterpart that populism is up against and vice versa, is clearly gaining ground breeding notions of anti-populism, technocracy, technocratic populism and the like.

Essentially, the arguments for this refusal were based on the following, the functioning of the capitalist state must be explained based on the objective links between this political institution and class structure, whoever controls, manages and occupies the main nodes of power within the state apparatus, the bureaucracy, regardless of social origin, faith or specific motivations, has no choice but to reproduce the objective function of the state, which consists of maintaining the social cohesion of a given social formation this is equally valid for any type of political regime, bourgeois democracy, military dictatorship, fascism, authoritarianism, in which those in command of the political administration of the state are sensibly different.

Again in both cases, this prevailing negative judgment has a point but is somewhat premature at the same time. Representative democracy, I argue, is inconceivable without political elites. And it would probably be much worse without the continuous reminder of the promise of democracy which populism provides. The pathologies entailed in both cases come with the inherent tendency to overstretch one aspect of democracy at the expense of others.

Elitism is the belief or notion that individuals who form an elite, a select group of people perceived as having an intrinsic quality, high intellect, wealth, power, notability, special skills, or experience, are more likely to be constructive to society as a whole, and therefore deserve influence or authority greater than that of others. The term elitism may be used to describe a situation in which power is concentrated in the hands of a limited number of people.

In political and sociological theory, the elite are a small group of powerful people who hold a disproportionate amount of wealth, privilege, political power, or skill in a group. This group includes bureaucratic, corporate, intellectual, military, media, and government elites who control the principal institutions and whose opinions and actions influence the decisions of the policymakers. The basis for membership of a power elite is institutional power, namely an influential position within a prominent private or public organization.

The elitism is historically associated with hereditary or ruling social class. In many states, the elitism included the upper class of people with hereditary rank and titles. Term elitism is sometimes also applied to other elites, and is used as a more generic term when describing earlier societies. Upper class in modern societies is the social class composed of people who hold the highest social status, usually are the wealthiest members of class society, and wield the greatest political power. According to this view, the upper class is generally distinguished by immense wealth which is passed on from generation to generation.

Because the upper classes of a society may no longer rule the society in which they are living, they are often referred to as the old upper classes, and they are often culturally distinct from the newly rich middle classes that tend to dominate public life in modern social democracies. According to the latter view held by the traditional upper classes, no amount of individual wealth or fame would make a person from an undistinguished background into a member of the upper class as one must be born into a family of that class and raised in a particular manner to understand and share upper class values, traditions, and cultural norms.

Telekinesis

——

Telekinesis

——

Telekinesis

The human mind is an amazing thing an 100 billion neurons make it possible for us to walk, talk, think, create, build the list is virtually endless. Human nature, meanwhile, inspires us to want more, to push the boundaries of brainpower and discover new skills. Some of the most sought-after of those skills include telekinesis, an ability that lets us interact with physical objects using only our thoughts.

The power to move, manipulate or otherwise interact with objects, matter with one’s mind. The user has telekinesis the ability to influence, manipulate matter or another aspect of a physical system with one’s mind or through other non-physical means. Commonly, its most fundamental trait is to move and control objects from a distance and without physical contact. It may evolve to the point that a telekinetic can anything at a subatomic, particle, and universal level. At its most advanced levels, its influence can expand to affect facets of reality other than matter, namely space, and time.

Instead researchers have focused on what they term telekinesis or the manipulation of very small objects. The idea is that if the ability exists, its force is obviously very weak. Therefore, the less physical energy that would have to be exerted on an object to physically move it, the more obvious the effect should be. For this reason, laboratory experiments often focus on rather mundane feats such as trying to make dice land on a certain number at an above-chance rate, or influencing a computerized random number generator.

In at the request of the army formed a scientific panel to assess the best evidence for telekinesis. Part of its purpose was to investigate military applications of telekinesis, for example to remotely jam or disrupt enemy weaponry. The panel heard from a variety of military staff who believed in telekinesis and made and positive results from experiments.

As the ability is connected to the mind of the user, it can either be activated and controlled through conscious effort and concentration, through willpower and emotion of a particular level of intensity, or through achieving a state of discipline and serenity. In some cases, the ability can respond to the user’s thoughts and ideas, imagination, desires or belief in their abilities, making it far easier to activate but potentially more challenging to control, especially during moments of stress, rendering it a liability or even an unintended hazard in certain scenarios. Moreover, these aspects of the user’s mind and mental capacity at large can potentially affect the accuracy, precision, range, and strength of their ability and the subsequent limitations of its intuitiveness, usability, and reliability in different situations. Alternatively, the extent of the ability can be so immense as to allow for the user to passively affect matter in a variety of ways with their presence alone.

There are certain classes of phenomena, both physical and biological, which for two generations have been persistently pressing for recognition by official science, and have been as persistently refused such recognition. With the present worldwide organisation of scientific research, such a situation is, to say the least, unusual. It is not as if new observations were habitually neglected. Quite the contrary. The announcement of a new discovery instantly sends a flutter through the universities and research laboratories, and within a week hundreds of competent men are eagerly testing, repeating, and criticising the alleged discovery. After a short period of doubt and perhaps controversy, the innovation is either confirmed or discredited, and the attitude of science towards it is settled.

Philosophy and Democracy

Plato was an Athenian philosopher. He is widely considered a pivotal figure in the history of Ancient Greek and Western philosophy, along with his teacher, Socrates, and his most famous student, Aristotle. Plato has also often been cited as one of the founders of Western religion and spirituality. Philosophy is a ladder that Western political thinking climbed up, and then shoved aside. Starting in the seventeenth century, philosophy played an important role in clearing the way for the establishment of democratic institutions in the West. It did so by secularizing political thinking, substituting questions about how human beings could lead happier lives for questions about how God’s will might be done. Philosophers suggested that people should just put religious revelation to one side, at least for political purposes, and act as if human beings were on their own, free to shape their own laws and their own institutions to suit their felt needs, free to make a fresh start.

Normative democratic theory deals with the moral foundations of democracy and democratic institutions, as well as the moral duties of democratic representatives and citizens. It is distinct from descriptive and explanatory democratic theory, which aim to describe and explain how democracy and democratic institutions function. Normative democracy theory aims to provide an account of when and why democracy is morally desirable as well as moral principles for guiding the design of democratic institutions and the actions of citizens and representatives. Of course, normative democratic theory is inherently interdisciplinary and must draw on the results of political science, sociology, psychology, and economics in order to give concrete moral guidance.

Democratic philosophy reaches beyond institutions and systems to examine the practices, habits, movements, mentalities, and dispositions necessary both to support those institutions and to challenge them when they ossify into oligarchic and other undemocratic forms. Democracy as a lived experience, especially in times of crisis and deep insecurity, is nurtured by fundamental inquiry into what it means to be a citizen and what it means to be a political subject more broadly. Finally, democratic philosophy can denote something more than a philosophy of democracy—it can also signify a publicly oriented and civically engaged way of doing conceptual and ethical inquiry.

Democracy is a form of government in which the people have the authority to deliberate and decide legislation. Who is considered part of the people and how authority is shared among or delegated by the people has changed over time and at different rates in different countries, but over time more and more of a democratic country’s inhabitants have generally been included. Cornerstones of democracy include freedom of assembly, association and speech, inclusiveness and equality, citizenship, consent of the governed, voting rights, freedom from unwarranted governmental deprivation of the right to life and liberty, and minority rights.

The current era is that of the end of philosophy. Such an end is tantamount to the irreversible abandonment of the Platonic notion of Truth understood as the expression of an eternal and objective order of all Being. The current era is also that of the emergence as well as the progressive consolidation of democratic societies. It shall be argued that, in a democracy, the erstwhile political supremacy of a specific political and intellectual caste must necessarily be discarded in favour of an open conception the end of philosophy in the age of democracy.

Cryptozoology

Cryptozoology is a science that searches for and studies unknown have long held a fascination for people the world over. Debates about their actual existence or what they might really be have continued for centuries. While biologists regularly identify new species, cryptozoologists often focus on creatures from the Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch, the Chupacabra. In their search for these entities, cryptozoologists may employ devices such as motion-sensitive cameras, night-vision equipment, and audio-recording equipment. While there have been attempts to codify cryptozoological approaches like biologists, zoologists, botanists, paleontology, and other academic disciplines. If more cryptids do exist, there are scientific evolutionary roots on to how these creatures possibly evolved.

Some scholars have identified precursors to modern cryptozoology in certain medieval approaches to the folklore record, and the psychology behind the cryptozoology approach has been the subject of academic study. Every animal or plant on this page is marked as one of the following something that stretches the limits of what is scientifically plausible.

  • Confirmed: Cryptids whose existence is alleged.
  • Unconfirmed: Cryptids whose existence is alleged but not demonstrated.
  • Discredited: Cryptids that have a body of evidence against their existence.
  • Proposed: Cryptids with an alternative explanation accepted by the general scientific community.
  • Extinct: Animals that are generally believed to be extinct, but which cryptozoologists believe may have an extant relict population.

Aquatic or semi-aquatic, terrestrial, and winged. Animalia Paradoxa are the mythical, magical or otherwise suspect animals mentioned in the edition of Carl Linnaeus’s seminal work Systema Naturae under the header Paradoxa. It lists fantastic creatures found in medieval bestiaries and some animals reported by explorers from abroad and explains why they are excluded from Systema Naturae.

  • Hydra: body of a snake, with two feet, seven necks and the same number of heads, lacking wings. Nature for itself and always the similar, never naturally makes multiple heads on one body.
  • Rana-Piscis: A South American frog which is significantly smaller than its tadpole stage that the metamorphosis in this species went from frog to fish’. Frogs, like all amphibia, delight in lungs and spiny bones. Spiny fish, instead of lungs, are equipped with gills.
  • Monoceros: Monoceros of the older, body of a horse, feet of a wild animal, horn straight, long, spirally twisted.
  • Pelecanus: The same hand down fabulously that it inflicts a wound with its beak on its own thigh, to feed its young with the flowing blood. A sack hanging below its throat gave a handle for the story.
  • Satyrus: With a tail, hairy, bearded, with a manlike body, gesticulating much, very fallacious, is a species of monkey, if ever one has been seen.
  • Borometz: The is reckoned with plants, and is similar to a lamb; whose stalk coming out of the ground enters an umbilicus; and the same is said to be provided with blood from by chance devouring wild animals.
  • Phoenix: Species of bird, of which only one individual exists in the world, and which when decrepit from pyre made of aromaticis said fabulously to become again young, to undergo happy former periods of life.
  • Draco: Linnaeus wrote that it has a snakelike body, two feet, two wings, like a bat, which is a winged lizard or a ray artificially shaped as a monster and dried.
  • Manticora: Face of a decrepit old man, body of a lion, tail starred with sharp points.
  • Lamia: Face of a man, breasts of a virgin, body of a four-footed animal scaled, forefeet of a wild animal, hind of cattle.
  • Siren: Two fins only on all the body, those on the chest. Head and neck and chest to the umbilicus have the human appearance. From the umbilicus to the extremity of the body was unformed flesh with no sign of a tail. Two pectoral fins on the chest, with five bones or fingers, staying together, by which it swims.
